“You can’t stop the waves, but you can learn to surf.” – John Kabat-Zin
Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) is a research-based 8 week course that can help change your life, or more accurately, how you relate to life.
The classic 8 week MBSR course will be offered in Palm Springs starting on January 29, 2025 taught by Ian Challis at the Mizell Center. Registration is now open!
What is MBSR?
Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) is the original 8 week course in mindful living developed in 1979 by Jon Kabat-Zinn at the University of Massachusetts Medical School.
The MBSR program offers mindfulness training and support through meditation instruction, body awareness practices and gentle yoga movements. The group learning environment is designed to be supportive, safe and interesting. Each 2.5 hour class includes discussion, practice, and practical, research-backed information about living with greater mindfulness.
Through the MBSR learning and practices, participants gain tools to respond to the stresses of life in an integrated and healthy way.
Research has shown MBSR to positively, and often profoundly, affect participants in positive ways, such as: Improved ability to cope with stressful situations; greater ability to relax; decreases in medical symptoms and psychological distress, improvement in sleep quality; reduction in grief and fatigue — all while learning to live life more fully and enjoyably.
The course includes 8 weekly 2.5 hour sessions and one daylong practice retreat between classes 5 and 6. Each class includes meditation and movement practices, discussion and inquiry, and helpful information on stress-physiology and the mind-body connection.
Cost: The complete cost of the 8 week course, (tuition, all course materials, and the daylong retreat) is $395. A sliding scale is available on the registration page.
Our next course begins on January 29, 2025 at the Mizell Center, 480 S. Sunrise Way, Palm Springs, CA 92262. You must preregister to enroll in the course by using the link below:
